Colombia

What a beautiful and amazing part of the world, it is just a shame that it has the reputation it does for which it may not entirely deserve. Personally I had no problems and always felt safe in Colombia but of course there are some areas that are better to avoid, much like any big city around the world. How many times have you heard the statement “That country is dangerous” or “Don’t travel there” by people who have never had any personal experience or so much as been to the country they are actually talking about. I am not saying that there are not some elements of danger in which common sense and caution needs adhering to, but this also can be apparent in any country around the world.

It is very easy just to believe what one is told through the media or by government warnings about another country or culture without questioning or asking why? Just because a country is seen to be of a lower economical standard or different in their way of living to the one you may be fortunate enough to have been born in, does not necessarily make it unsafe or wrong.

I believe we should take a step back and think about how wealth and personal happiness in measured in the current world we live in today. Just maybe there is something that can be learnt from living a more simplistic lifestyle, which then in turn may allow others to simply live. I was fortunate enough to have traveled with some great people and meet many very friendly locals along the way. Here is some of what I saw…
